Dropped oil cap into engine bay

I dropped my oil cap into the engine bay when adding oil to it and can't find it. i dont know what to do. can i drive without a cap to a dealership to get a new one or have them find mine without oil spilling out? can it damage anything if i leave it in there and just replace it? what should i do? hey guys So i was just topping up the oil in my car & accidentally knocked the bottle cap into the engine bay. It went somewhere between the radiator & a thick metal tube which was parallel to the radiator which i think is part of the exhaust.
Simple. Remove the bottom engine shield. there are about 8 quarter turn screws. Then you can see the bottom of the engine and the oil cap should drop out when you remove the engine shield.

Water in the brake system will cause expensive failures down the road. Find the cap or get a new one on asap. The cap is likely sitting on your undershield. If the head gasket gets blown or damaged, engine coolant can leak into the combustion chamber or the passages of the engine oil. It is the latter that causes the milky oil cap. A strong magnet on the end of a piece of string helps with the metal stuff, or you can actually by magnets on the end of what looks like a car aerial, specifically for getting bolts out of the engine bay. I see so many half-right answers, that here goes another one (answer!): I have,in the past, dropped inside the engine that plastic ring that sits beneath the cap on a plastic oil can,and on both cases i was able to pull it out with a bent pick too

I put oil in my car tonight, and thought everything was fine until I got home and realized I had left the cap off. There was oil I noticed a bit of an oily smell while I was driving, but just figured I had spilled a bit as I was pouring and didn't think much of it.
